About the Journal
Focus and Scope
Síntesis. Revista de Filosofía is an open-access international academic peer-reviewed publication, edited by the Department of Philosophy of the Faculty of Liberal Arts of Universidad Adolfo Ibáñez. The journal publishes original research across all areas of philosophy and history of philosophy. It is committed to creating a space for all philosophical traditions. Our fundamental editorial criteria are, therefore, academic rigour, conceptual clarity, and the research’s genuine contribution to knowledge and quality philosophical discussion. The journal aims to a general public with philosophical interests, as well as to professional philosophers. We do not publish either popular, panoramic, general or theological papers.
We accept papers in Spanish, English, French, Italian, Portuguese and German.
Papers are submitted for external evaluation in accordance with the double-blind peer review system as stated in the Peer Review Process. Once accepted, and previous to publication, papers must conform to the style guidelines and requirements indicated in the Author Guidelines section.
We do not charge APCs or submission charges.
This publication is indexed in the Erih Plus, Dialnet, Latindex Catálogo, DOAJ, The Philosopher's Index, Répertoire bibliographique de la philosophie, and REDIB.
Peer Review Process
Each article is submitted for review by two external experts, in accordance with the “double-blind” review system (in which both the author and the reviewers remain anonymous). When appraising a paper, the key elements taken into account are the originality and plausibility of the main positions defended, the philosophical relevance of the subject matter, its contribution to specialised philosophical discussion, the quality of argumentation, as well as the adequacy and the relevance of the literature.
The Journal’s Editorial Team may directly reject those papers that do not fulfill the minimum publishing requirements, without the need to complete the arbitration process. In order to be considered and submitted for review, the paper must also fulfil the formal criteria and conform to the Journal’s citation guidelines (see Author Guidelines).
There are four possible review outcomes. Papers may be accepted by with no further need for amendment, accepted with optional suggestions, accepted with reservations to which the author must respond as a condition for the paper to be published, or alternatively, rejected. In the event of any disparity in opinion between the two reviewers regarding the recommendation for publication (whether this be with or without further need for amendments), a third expert shall be called upon and the majority decision accepted.
The approximate duration of the review process is two to five months, at the end of which the editors will deliver the decision reached to the author, including the need for any amendments to be made as per the reviewers’ suggestion, and, where applicable, the paper’s publication date.
Open Access Policy
This journal provides immediate open access to its content on the principle that making research freely available to the public supports a greater global exchange of knowledge.
Ethical Norms
Síntesis. Revista de Filosofía bases its ethical norms on those established by the Committee on Publication Ethics (COPE). For further information, please consult the organisation’s webpage http://publicationethics.org/
In summary, Síntesis. Revista de Filosofía has identified a series of duties both for its Editors as well as for its reviewers and authors.
Editors, Scientific Board and Editorial Board.
The editors, Scientific Board and Scientific Board will ensure that the review process is strictly and justly followed, in addition to fulfilling the responsibility of ensuring the anonymity of both the author as well as the Evaluators.
It is the responsibility of the editors to deliver the review results in a timely manner, in addition to any event or advancement in the review process. Furthermore, they are also responsible for informing of any withdrawals or corrections whenever they may be required.
Both the editors as well as the Scientific Board and Editorial Board are committed to exercising their duties in an objective and fair manner, indiscriminate of the authors’ gender, religious or political beliefs, ethnicity or origin.
Peer Reviewers
It is the responsibility of all those reviewing the papers to do so in accordance with the rigorousness of the discipline and in rejection of any ideological bias, bias relating to gender, sex, sexual orientation, race, personal religious beliefs or bias towards the text itself.
All observations and suggestions placed towards the papers under review should be well-founded and delivered in a respectful manner, founded upon arguments and with reference to their sources. Said observations must also aim to improve the quality of the published work. The recommendation for publication must be based upon criteria that is comprehensible to both the Editor and Editorial Committee which may not necessarily be experts on the particular topic in question. Recommendations for publication must also be coherent with that which is expressed in the review comments. On the contrary, the Editor and Editorial committee reserve the right to submit the text for further evaluation.
In the case of a suspected conflict of interest with the author of the article in question, the peer reviewers must recuse themselves and inform the Editor of any published work that might be similar to that which is under review.
Peer Reviewers are committed to maintaining the confidentiality of any of the information provided to them by the Editor or Author, to not retaining a copy of the manuscript and also to delivering the evaluation within the deadline agreed with the Editor and Editorial Committee.
Authors
It is the duty of the Authors to:
- Guarantee the veracity of the data provided in their publication, both in terms of their own institutional affiliation as well as the origin of the references included in the text.
- Ensure the originality of the papers submitted to the Journal for consideration. Authors must confirm that the manuscript sent in is neither currently under consideration, or has already been accepted, for publication by another Journal. If any sections that are included coincide with another of the authors’ own papers that have already been published or sent off for publishing, said paper must be cited.
- Where relevant, permission must be secured prior to reproducing any content from other sources.
- In the event of identifying any major errors in the publication, the Editor of the Journal must be identified and assistance provided in notification of a corrigendum where deemed necessary.
Síntesis. Revista de Filosofía firmly rejects any form of plagiarism in the articles submitted for consideration. In the event of detecting plagiarism in an already published article or the existence of any suspicion in this regard, the Editorial Committee, together with the Editor and Director of the Journal, will review the complete set of evidence of the allegation and give the author the opportunity to respond. In the case that an act of plagiarism be confirmed, the article will proceed to be removed from our website and a retraction will be published both on the webpage as well as the Journal’s social media networks.
For these purposes, we submit all articles to the plagiarism detection system "Turnitin".
Publication Frequency
The journal publishes two issues a year solely on a digital basis.
The first issue comes out in August and covers the months January-July. The second is published in December and covers the months August-December.
One of these issues is miscellaneous in nature, whilst the other is devoted to a specific subject.

Journal History
From 2018 on Intus Legere Filosofía is renamed as Síntesis. Revista de Filosofía.
Intus Legere was first published in in 1998. Up until 2006 its subject area broadly spanned the humanities. In 2007 the Intus Legere Filosofía edition was introduced, specifically dedicated to the area of philosophy, at which point the Journal reinitiated its issue numbering and has since then been publishing two volumes annually, one of which is dedcated to a special subject.
