In this paper we try to interpret the foreword of St. Thomas Aquinas's short treatise De ente et essentia using one of the sources employed by the Angelic Doctor in its composition, namely Avicenna's Metaphysics. Taking as a reading key the reduction that St. Thomas exerts on one of Avicenna's sentences, we have attempted to show how closely our Doctor has followed the Persian philosopher, but at the same time that his position regarding the concept of being is radically diverse.References
