We present a linear commentary on De principiis naturae 4. St. Thomas» discourse focuses on the internal relationships of the being's causes. Firstly, he concludes that the final cause is the cause of causes, as it is the cause of the causality of each of the causes. Secondly, he shows the hylemorphic condition of bodies, thanks to which the material and formal causes cause each other, though diversely and with a primacy of the formal cause. Thirdly, the priority according to time or according to perfection comprehends variable relations of priority, not only between the causes and its effects, but also between the causes themselves. In consequence, we face the necessity of matter and the necessity of end. Finally, presenting the coincidence of causes in a same subject, he conveys that matter can never be one according to the species with the other causes.References
