Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to explore some Aristotelian clues which could help us in the attempt to solve Six paradoxes of the Aristotelian Ethics, which have caused misunderstandings: 1. The goal of Ethics is to help us become good, but moral speeches cannot make people good. 2. Practical wisdom does not set the end of our actions, but only the means: are we determined by early habits for life? 3. If we are only partially responsable for our dispositions, how can we become totally responsible for our behaviour as adults? 4. If intellect moves nothing, and bad habits are firmly established, how can anyone change? 5. If the bad person ignores he is bad and cannot be persuaded, what can the legislator do about him? 6-. If, in order to be virtuons one should be practically wise, and in order lo be practically wise, one should be virtuous, which is the starting point?
