THE ACQUIRED INTELLECT DOCTRINE IN ALBERTO MAGNO AND ITS PROJECTION TO THE POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY. A COUNTERPOINT WITH THE SAME DOCTRINE IN THE POLITICAL PHILOSOPHY OF AL-FARABI

The doctrine of the Acquired Intellect, developed by the Arabs in the tenth century, especially by Al Farabi, goes through the whole work of Albertus Magnus. That doctrine confers to his Political Philosophy a metaphysic and theological foundation. In the case of Albertus, it is a correction of the concept of the Acquired Intellect developed in the tenth century by Al Farabi from the reception of the texts of Aristotle —De Anima—. Whereas in Albertus Magnus that reception is translated as a re-empowerment of the free activity of intellect, for Al Farabi the same doctrine gave place to clearly different interpretations, as is the case of the model of Baruj Espinosa. Albertus Magnus offers a model of Political Philosophy in harmony with the Metaphysic and the Supernatural Theology with a clear scholastic tone. Al Farabi, in turn, even having developed a doctrine of the Acquired Intellect prior to Albertus Magnus, can be considered strictly as a proto-modern.
