In this work the metaphysics of Leonardo Polo is presented as a knowledge of principles: of causes or categorial principles, and of first principles. This duality corresponds to the real distinction of essence and being that is characteristic of the universe as a creature; and it agrees with the first two dimensions of Polo's methodology: the abandonment of mental limit.
