Abstract

The purpose of this work is to show how Europe and America had excellent levels of education in the humanities studies until the 60s. At this historical point such tradition was broken. The educational point of view changes the focus from a curriculum centred in knowledge, cognitive development and morality to a growing sociological and utilitarian tendency of education, which is considered an instrument at the service of political interests. The consequences of this process are the current educational crisis in the Western World.
